Makan Malaysia Rendang Lemongrass Curry Paste 300ml

Available to preorder. Makan Malaysia Rendang Lemongrass Curry Paste brings coconut, lemongrass and fragrant spices together in a 300ml jar for cooking a rich Malaysian rendang at home.

Toasted coconut, known as kerisik, gives rendang its distinctive depth. Cinnamon, cloves, star anise and cardamom add warmth around the lemongrass and chilli. As the sauce cooks down, it thickens and clings to the meat, tofu or vegetables.

Cook it gently

Sear your chosen protein, add the paste and the amount of water directed on your jar, then simmer gently. Stir as the sauce reduces, adding a little more liquid if needed. Cooking time depends on what you use; beef needs longer to become tender than chicken or tofu.

Choose your own rendang

Use it for beef or chicken rendang, or try firm tofu, mushrooms or jackfruit. Let the sauce reduce to the consistency you enjoy. For a wetter curry, Makan Malaysia suggests adding a little coconut milk.

Serve with rice and something fresh

Plain rice gives the sauce room to stand out. Add sliced cucumber or a simple vegetable side for freshness. If you are preparing the dish ahead, follow normal cooling and refrigeration guidance and reheat thoroughly before serving.
