Eu Yan Sang began in Gopeng, Perak, in 1879, when Eu Kong opened a small shop serving the local mining community. He called it Yan Sang, meaning caring for mankind. His son, Eu Tong Sen, later expanded the business, helping establish the Eu Yan Sang name across Malaya, Singapore and Hong Kong.

For many Malaysian and Singaporean families, it is a name associated with herbal shops, familiar bottles in the cupboard and food gifts brought along on family visits. Chicken essence and bird’s nest remain part of that story, with original recipes, herbal varieties and boxed sets chosen according to personal preference and family tradition.
