MyKuali Penang Asam Laksa Rice Vermicelli Cup is a sour, spicy noodle soup with a savoury fish flavour and soft rice vermicelli. The broth has the sharpness associated with asam laksa, alongside the fragrance of lemongrass, galangal, ginger flower and kesum leaves.
Asam laksa is one of Penang’s best-known hawker dishes. Its appeal comes from the combination of sourness, fish and herbs, with chilli adding heat. MyKuali’s cup version puts that distinctive Malaysian noodle soup into a format you can prepare with a kettle.
MyKuali was founded by a Penang-born food lover who wanted familiar home flavours to be easier to enjoy. This asam laksa cup reflects that idea: a recognisable Penang dish in a single serving, with the rice vermicelli soaking up the fish-based broth.
Prepare the cup with boiling water according to its instructions, cover and allow the vermicelli to soften before stirring well. For a fresh finish at home, add a little sliced cucumber, red onion or mint after cooking.
